Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior political figure said the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
